Cervical lymphadenitis is usually caused by infection from bacteria or viruses. The cervical lymph nodes can become infected when there is an infection of the throat or tonsils.

Causes of cervical lymphadenitis include:

Dental infection
Otitis media
Otitis externa
Kawasaki disease
Mononucleosis
