• A red throat and tonsils
• Swollen tonsils
• Pus on the tonsils
• Swollen tonsils
• Pus or discharge on the tonsils
• Swollen lymph nodes in the neck
• White patches in the throat due to thrush

Tests may be necessary to confirm the diagnosis of cervical lymphadenitis caused by bacterial throat infection.

Tests that may be used to evaluate cervical lymphadenitis include:

• Rapid strep test:
• A quick screening test for strep throat
• Complete blood count
• Monospot
• Throat culture:
• Detects various bacteria within 1-2 days
