Home care for cast and splint problems include:

- Place ice packs over the cast or splint for the first 24 hours.
- Do not get plaster casts wet.
- Follow splint care instructions.
- Keep the cast or splint elevated for 24-48 hours.
- Above your heart if possible
- Check the circulation to your fingers or toes.
- Do not scratch the skin under your cast.
- This can injure the skin and cause infection.
- Do not stand on a leg cast or splint.
