Cast and Splint Problems Home Care
Home care for cast and splint problems include:
  • Follow cast care instructions:
  • Place ice packs over the cast or splint for the first 24 hours.
    • Do not get plaster casts wet.
  • Follow splint care instructions. Videos
  • Keep the cast or splint elevated for 24-48 hours.
    • Above your heart if possible
  • Check the circulation to your fingers or toes. Images
  • Do not scratch the skin under your cast.
    • This can injure the skin and cause infection.
  • Do not stand on a leg cast or splint.
