Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Definition
Common names:
A person with carpal tunnel syndrome has wrist pain and hand numbness. The symptoms are caused by irritation of the median nerve, where it travels through the wrist.
![]() The carpal tunnel is formed by the bones of the wrist on one side, and a strong band of tissue on the other side. Tendons and nerves pass from the forearm and through the carpal tunnel, in order to reach the hand. Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by inflamed tendons, which place pressure on the median nerve. Pressure on the median nerve causes pain, numbness and weakness. Severe symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome are often corrected with surgery. ![]() ![]() Continue to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Incidence
