A person with carcinoid syndrome has symptoms caused by a carcinoid tumor. Carcinoid tumors are malignant tumors that arise most often in the lungs or the intestine. Carcinoid tumors produce serotonin, which is a hormone that dilates blood vessels throughout the body.
