Cancer Bile Duct Anatomy

To better understand cholangiocarcinoma, it helps to understand the anatomy of the gallbladder and biliary tract.

The gallbladder is located in the upper right-hand portion of the abdomen. It is just under the ribcage. This hollow organ acts as a storage site for bile that is made in the liver. Bile flows into the upper intestine to aid digestion via a tube called the common bile duct.

Anatomy examples:

  • Location of the liver in the abdomen
  • Location of the gallbladder in the abdomen
  • Gallbladder and bile ducts
