A person with a calcaneus fracture has a break in the heel bone. The calcaneus bone is a strong bone that is difficult to fracture. The most common mechanism of injury is a fall onto the heels from a significant height. Images

The calcaneus bone can also sustain tiny hairline fractures called a stress fracture. Stress fractures of the calcaneus bone are most commonly seen in distance runners.
