Symptoms of first degree burns include:

Skin redness
Skin pain
Skin tenderness
Mild skin swelling
No blisters form on the skin surface

Symptoms of second degree burns include:

Skin redness
Skin pain
Skin tenderness
Skin swelling
Blisters are common

Symptoms of third degree burns include:

Charring of the skin

Burned skin may appear white or dark
No skin redness

No skin pain or tenderness:

Nerves are damaged in the skin

Second degree burns may surround the third degree burn
