A person with a toe contusion has a bruised toe. A contusion is a swollen collection of blood that forms when blood vessels are broken beneath the skin. A toe contusion may be caused by a blow to the toe, a toe sprain, or a toe fracture. Since the feet are especially prone to injury, toe contusions are very common.

Symptoms of a toe contusion include toe pain, swelling and tenderness. The toenail may also be injured.
