A person with a breast lump has a knot, bump or swollen area under the skin of the breast. Overgrowth of cells, infections, and swollen lymph glands in the breast can form lumps in the breast. Most breast lumps do not represent cancer. Breast fibroadenoma is the most common cause of breast lump.

What are the symptoms of a breast lump?
Most breast lumps are soft, rubbery, and nontender. A tender and painful breast lump is more commonly due to an infection.

How does the doctor treat a breast lump?
Some breast lumps will need to be surgically removed and evaluated for breast cancer.
