• Confusion
• Speech abnormalities
• The eye examination may show:
• Loss of eye movement
• Papilledema on examination of the retina

Testing and brain imaging are required to confirm the diagnosis of brain abscess.

Tests that may be used to evaluate a brain abscess include:

• Chest x-ray
• Blood cultures
• Urinalysis
• Complete blood count
• CT scanning of the brain
• MRI scan of the brain
• EEG
• Sinus x-rays
