Strategies to prevent bladder infections include:
  • Empty your bladder completely while urinating.
  • Do not rush to empty your bladder.
  • Do not delay urinating when you feel the urge to urinate.
  • Practice safe sex:
    • Use condoms.
Special strategies to prevent bladder infections in women include:
  • Wipe from front to back after urinating: this prevents bacteria around the anus from spreading to the urethra.
  • Urinate before intercourse and immediately after intercourse.
