• Constipation
• Loss of appetite
• Nausea
• Abdominal pain

Symptoms of worsening beriberi include:

• Confusion
• Leg cramps
• Numbness and tingling of the legs and feet
• Weakness
• Weight loss

Severe beriberi may cause symptoms of congestive heart failure (CHF).

Symptoms of mild CHF include:

• Fatigue with exercise
• Loss of appetite
• Mild fatigue
• Urinating more often at night

Symptoms of moderate CHF include:

• Moderate general fatigue
• Nighttime cough
• Shortness of breath when lying flat
• Shortness of breath with activity or exercise
• Leg swelling (bilateral)
• Feet swelling (bilateral)
• Waking at night with shortness of breath
• Wheezing
