Wash the skin with mild soap and water.
Massage the itchy area with an ice cube or
cold compress

Take a cool bath or shower. Consider oatmeal (Aveeno) baths.
Medications for

An oral
antihistamine
, such as
diphenhydramine

Benadryl
)
For children 1 to 6 years old: 6.25-12.5
mg
of
diphenhydramine
every 4-6 hours
For children 6-12 years old: 12.5-25
mg

diphenhydramine
every 4-6 hours
Adults may take 25 to 50
mg

diphenhydramine
every 4-6 hours

steroid cream
or ointment, such as a 0.5 to 1%
