Most bee, wasp or hornet stings can be treated at home. An evaluation of a sting reaction begins with a medical history and physical examination.

Physical findings in a person with a reaction to a sting may include:

• Hives reactions
• Itching
• Low blood pressure
• Rapid respiratory rate
• Pain at the site of the sting
• Swelling at site of sting
• Localized swelling reactions

Those who develop an allergy to the venom may require allergy testing.
