A person with Bartter's syndrome has symptoms that are caused by increased production of the hormone, aldosterone. Aldosterone regulates sodium, potassium and water balance in the kidneys. Images

High aldosterone levels can cause high blood pressure and abnormally low levels of potassium in the blood stream, as well as other abnormalities. Bartter's syndrome is a hereditary illness.
