Balantidiasis Definition
Common names:
  • Balantidiasis
A person with balantidiasis has inflammation of the colon, caused by an infection with the parasite, Balantidium coli. Balantidiasis occurs primarily in those with weak immune systems, such those who have AIDS or receive chemotherapy.

Intestinal infections may be caused by parasites, viruses or bacteria.
