Bacterial endocarditis is caused by bacteria that grow on the inner lining of the heart, or heart valves.

Bacterial endocarditis usually affects one or more of the heart valves:
  • Mitral valve: Images
    • Most commonly involved
  • Aortic valve Images
  • Tricuspid valve Images
  • Pulmonic valve: Images
    • Least commonly involved
