Avian Flu Overview
Another name for Avian Flu is Bird Flu.
What is bird flu?
A person with Bird flu has an infection of the lungs caused by a strain of type A influenza virus called H5N1. The avian influenza virus infects birds, such as chickens, ducks and turkeys. Many influenza viruses that occur in animals do not infect humans, but the avian influenza virus does.
What are the symptoms of bird flu?
Symptoms of Bird flu include cough, chest congestion, chest pain, breathing difficulty, fever, headache, body aches, and fatigue.
How does the doctor treat bird flu?
Treatment for Bird flu includes general supportive care and anti-viral medications.
