Atherosclerosis Prevention: Estrogen Therapy
Heart disease and atherosclerosis become more common in women after they reach menopause. Menopause is caused by a lack of estrogen production.

For years, estrogen replacement therapy has been used to treat symptoms of menopause.
However, recent evidence has shown that regular treatment with estrogen can increase the risk of heart disease and stroke after menopause.
