A person with aspergillosis has an infection of the lungs, caused by the fungus, Aspergillus. Aspergillosis is more common in people with weak immune systems, such as those with AIDS or cancer. A closely related condition, allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis, is a lung condition that is caused by an allergy to aspergillus. Images

Aspergillosis causes coughing, chest pain, wheezing and difficulty breathing.

Treatment for aspergillosis is with antifungal medications. Surgery is less commonly required.
