A person with aplastic anemia has a low blood count, caused by a failure of the bone marrow to make blood cells. It results in decreased production of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Images

Red blood cells carry oxygen, white blood cells fight infection, and platelets form blood clots. A decrease in these blood cells can result in fatigue, infection, and abnormal bleeding.
