Anxiety Definition

A person with anxiety may have constant worry, or fear, that interferes with normal daily activities. Anxiety can be a normal response to stress, conflict or danger.

A person with a sudden bout of excessive anxiety may be having a panic attack or anxiety reaction. A person with chronic, excessive anxiety that interferes with normal functioning may have an anxiety disorder. This kind of anxiety may cause physical symptoms, such as palpitations, chest pain or shortness of breath.
