Inhalational anthrax usually starts with flu-like symptoms about one week after breathing the spores. However, the onset of symptoms can take as long as two months.

Early symptoms of inhalational anthrax may include:

• Body aches
• Muscle aches
• Weakness or fatigue
• Dry cough
• Fever

Later symptoms of inhalational anthrax may include:

• Severe difficulty breathing
• Neck swelling
• Chest swelling
• High fever
