Physical findings in those with an anterior tibial strain may include:

• Leg swelling in front of the shin
• Leg tenderness in front of the shin

Usually, testing is not necessary to make the diagnosis of anterior tibial strain.

Tests that may be used to evaluate an anterior tibial strain include:

• Bone x-rays of the tibia
• Bone scan
