What is ankle redness?
A person with ankle redness has skin over the ankle that has become red. Ankle redness is usually caused by infection or inflammation, but it can also be caused by an injury to the ankle. Causes of ankle redness include cellulitis, septic arthritis, Achilles tendinitis, ankle tendinitis, peripheral vascular disease, osteoarthritis, gout, and ankle injury.
What are the symptoms of ankle redness?
Symptoms that may occur with ankle redness include ankle pain, ankle swelling, ankle stiffness, and ankle tenderness.
How does the doctor treat ankle redness?
Treatment for ankle redness depends on underlying cause. Treatment for ankle redness may include rest, elevation, cold or warm compresses, nonsteroidal antiinflammatory medication, and antibiotics. Additional treatment may also include a splint, a cast, crutches, or surgery.
