• Ankle bruising
• Ankle deformity
• Ankle pain with movement
• Ankle tenderness over a bone
• Inability to walk

Tests are required to make the diagnosis.

Tests for an ankle fracture may include:

• X-ray of the ankle:
• Normal ankle x-rays
• Ankle fracture
• MRI of the ankle
• Nuclear bone scan
