The evaluation of anaphylaxis begins with a history and physical exam.

Physical findings in those with anaphylaxis may include:

• Hives:
• Children
• Adults
• Facial or mouth swelling
• Low blood pressure
• Rapid breathing rate
• Rapid pulse
• Eye redness
• Runny nose
• Wheezing

The diagnosis of anaphylaxis can be made without testing.

Tests that may be used to evaluate anaphylaxis include:

• Serum immunoglobulins
• Eosinophil count
• Soft tissue x-ray of the neck
• Allergy skin testing
• Skin biopsy
