There is no cure for Alzheimer's disease. Treatment focuses on controlling the symptoms of the disease.

Treatment of Alzheimer's disease may include:

    • Usually prescribed when symptoms interfere with activities of daily living.
    • Benefits of medication must be weighed against risk for side effects.
    • These medications do not work for everyone who takes them.
    • Some of these medications work better in combination.
    • These medications do not cure the disease, but can help relieve symptoms and improve ability to function.
  • Medication for hallucinations
  • Medications for insomnia
  • Medications for depression
  • Supplementing vitamin E and ginkgo may be beneficial in some patients with Alzheimer's disease.
