Physical findings in those with allergic rhinitis may include:

• Clear mucus draining from the nose
• Redness of the inside lining of the nose
• Increased tearing
• Eye redness

The diagnosis of an allergic rhinitis can be made without testing.

Tests that may be used to evaluate allergic rhinitis include:

• Allergy skin testing
• Complete blood count
• Culture of nasal discharge
• Sinus x-rays
• CT scan of the sinuses
• Nasal endoscopy:
• Relies on the use of a thin, flexible endoscope that can be introduced into the nose.
• Surgery can be performed with these instruments, removing polyps and overgrown tissues.
