Adrenal Hyperplasia Anatomy
To better understand congenital adrenal hyperplasia, it helps to understand the anatomy of the adrenal glands.
The adrenal glands are triangle-shaped endocrine glands that lie over the top of each kidney.
The adrenal gland is composed of adrenal cortex and the adrenal medulla. The adrenal cortex produces a variety of steroid hormones including cortisol and aldosterone. The adrenal medulla produces epinephrine and norepinephrine.
