The evaluation of adhesive capsulitis begins with a history and physical exam.

Physical findings in those with adhesive capsulitis may include:

• Decreased range of motion in the shoulder
• Shoulder pain that is worse with motion

Usually, tests are not necessary to make the diagnosis of adhesive capsulitis.

Tests that may be used to evaluate adhesive capsulitis include:

• Shoulder x-ray
• Shoulder arthroscopy
• Shoulder arthrogram
• MRI scan of the shoulder
