Evaluation of adenomyosis begins with a medical history and physical examination.

Physical findings in those with adenomyosis may include:

• Pelvic examination may reveal uterine enlargement with tenderness to palpation.

The diagnosis of adenomyosis requires a biopsy of the endometrial lining of the uterus.

Additional tests that may be used to evaluate adenomyosis include:

• Complete blood count
• Ultrasound of the pelvis and uterus
• Uterine biopsy
• MRI scanning of the pelvis and uterus
• Laparoscopy
