The evaluation of acne begins with a history and physical exam.

Physical findings in someone with acne may include:

• Whiteheads on the face, back or chest
• Blackheads on the face, back or chest
• Pustules on the face, back or chest
• Skin cysts on the face, back or chest
• Skin redness around the lesions

Test are not required to make the diagnosis of acne.
