Abrasions Home Care: Warning Signs
Notify your doctor for abrasions and any of the following:
  • Pus draining from the abrasion
  • Red streaks that spread from the abrasion:
  • Fever over 101 degrees F (38.3 C) Videos
  • Worsening skin redness and pain around the abrasion:
  • Worsening swelling around the abrasion
  • Worsening pain around the abrasion
  • Worsening bleeding
  • You have a dirty abrasion and you have not had a tetanus booster within 5 years
  • You have not had a tetanus booster within 10 years
  • Your wound contains a foreign body
