Abnormal Urine Overview

Another name for Abnormal Urine is Abnormal Appearing Urine.

What is abnormal appearing urine?
A person with abnormal appearing urine has an unusual change in urine color. Red or pink urine may indicate the presence of blood in the urine. Dark brown urine may indicate the presence of bilirubin, which may be seen in those with jaundice. Cloudy urine may be a sign of infection. The most common cause of dark yellow urine is dehydration.

What are the symptoms of abnormal appearing urine?
Abnormal appearing urine symptoms include cloudy urine, brown urine, red urine, pink urine, urine with blood clots, and blue-tinged urine. Other symptoms that may be associated with abnormal appearing urine include increased urinary frequency, urinary urgency, pain during urination, fever, lower abdominal pain, flank pain, and low back pain.

How does the doctor treat abnormal appearing urine?
Treatment of abnormal appearing urine depends on the underlying cause. An infection may need to be treated with antibiotics.
