Abnormal Hair Growth Drugs
Drug treatment for hirsutism involves hormone therapy.
Birth control Pills
Birth control pills decrease the production of androgens, which stimulate hair growth. Most women who take birth control pills for hirsutism see a reduction in hair growth by the six-month after beginning treatment.
These medications prevent male hormones from stimulating the hair follicle to produce terminal hair. Combined use with birth control pills can improve hirsutism after 9 to 12 months of treatment.
Eflornithine Cream (Vaniqa) inhibits the growth of facial hair.
