A person with an abdominal muscle strain has stretching or tearing of one or more of the abdominal muscles, usually due to an injury. Images

Muscle strains occur when the muscle is stretched too far. Most muscle strains will cause partial tears in the belly of the muscle. A complete tear through the muscle is often referred to as a muscle rupture.
